Iain Parkhouse

Iain began his ISB career in 2003, and is a member of the Croydon Citadel corps.

He is currently in his second stint as Bandmaster (10 years), having previously led the band for 3 years. Iain is the son of Salvation Army officers and has been at Croydon Citadel since 1982.

He is currently working as a financial advisor, but previously was a musician in the Coldstream Guards for 9 years with the rank of Lance Corporal.

Iain is the ISB’s principal Baritone player.

Paul Sharman

Paul joined the ISB in 1994 and is a member of the solo cornet section. He grew up in Birmingham, before moving to London in 1990 to study Trumpet at the Royal College of Music.

Paul works in the Music Ministries Unit at THQ and is also currently studying for a MPhil in Composition at the University of Salford.

He is now a regular contributor to S.A. music journals and ISB concert programs. His first piece played by the ISB was ‘Righteousness, Peace and Joy', and two ISB repertoire CDs both have Paul’s music as title tracks – ‘Quest’ and ‘Inclusion’.

Jonathan Evans

Jonathan joined the ISB in September 2000, and currently also plays in the Hendon Band. Previously, Jonathan was at the Chalk Farm Corps in London where he was a member of the band for 28 years including 10 years as Bandmaster.

By profession, Jonathan is an accountant and works in the city of London for a clothing manufacturer.

Nigel Hills

Nigel joined the ISB in 1988, and has the distinction of being the current bands longest serving cornet player. He auditioned for the band under Bandmaster Ray Bowes, and has played under three bandmasters – Bowes, Redhead & Cobb.

Nigel has been Bandmaster at the Harpenden Corps for 21 years.

He is a qualified accountant and his day to day job is Deputy Chief Executive and Finance Director of Salvation Army Housing Association.

Martyn Bryant

Martyn joined the cornet section of the ISB in 1999. His Salvation Army background has always been associated with the Bristol Easton Corps, where he has been principal cornet since 1971.

Other responsibilities at the ‘Easton’ corps have included Deputy Bandmaster (25 years), and Songster Leader (12 years).

Martyn by profession is a self-employed stationary distributor.

Kevin Coates

Kevin joined the ISB in September 2004 on the cornet bench. Originally from Worksop, Kevin, along with his family, have been at the Croydon Citadel corps for some years, where he served for a time as Deputy Bandmaster.

Professionally, Kevin was a musician in the Coldstream Guards for 30 years reaching the rank of Senior Band Sergeant Major. He was recognised for his service in 2001 with an MBE, awarded by Prince Charles.

Kevin Serves the ISB as Band Manager.
